Vigo is a civil parish, formed in 2000, and modern rural village, built in the mid-20th century at the extreme southern boundary of the Borough of Gravesham in Kent, England. It has a population of 2,201.[1] The village lies at the top of the North Downs, east of the road between Gravesend and Wrotham. Its name comes from the public house situated on the main road, which commemorates the Battle of Vigo Bay, a sea battle during the War of the Spanish Succession.
Vigo was built on the site of a disused World War II army camp, relics of which are still unearthed in residents' gardens. It is situated in the middle of a chestnut woodland alongside Trosley Country Park, which forms part of the North Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
